Ödüller Los Angeles’daki Kodak Theatre’da Hugh Jackman’ın sunuculuğunda bir törenle verildi. Slumdog Millionaire filmi gecenin gözdesi olurken 8 dalda oscar kazandı, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Benjamin Button’un tuhaf hikayesi) ise 3 oscar kazandı. The Dark Knight’daki performansıyla “En iyi yardımcı erkek oyuncu” ödülüne layık görülen Heath Ledger -1979, 22 Ocak ‘08- (The Joker)’in ödülünü ise ailesi aldı.
